On January 17, 1975, the James E. Coffey Post 3, mortgaged its 11 Court St. home with the Nashua Trust Co. for $65,000. The funds were used to finance renovations of the building. Renovations were completed around Memorial Day of 1975.
An excerpt from the post newsletter "The Coffey Cup" of May 1975 reads as follows:
"RENOVATIONS
The renovation work has been proceeding according to schedule and it is anticipated to be completed before Memorial Day.
Additional work has been planned within the authorized budget. This includes enlargement of the kitchen and refurbishment of the men's and ladies' room on that floor. The wall between the kitchen and the meeting hall will be removed, the kitchen work space will be rearranged, and provisions for an automatic dish washer will be made. Two new complete rest rooms and several other improvements are planned.
The present kitchen has proven to be too small to handle our current social events and is predicted to be too small to handle those that have been planned for next year. Thus, the committee felt that it would be an advantage to have this work done especially while the future lounge is being renovated and the ceilings are opened up."
The post paid off the mortgage in full on 20 March 1987.
