From the meeting minutes of a special James E. Coffey Post 3 meeting held at 2:10 PM on Jan 24, 1971. Post commander Ernest E. Ledoux held a special meeting called for the purpose of determining the will of the members in relation to the Building Site Committee and the Building Fund Committees recommendation pertaining to the purchase of land and buildings off Henry Burque Drive known as the Hurley Estate. The amount of the bid to the Nashua Trust Company was in the amount of $66,000.00. In attendance were 6 Officers and 64 Members

After the reading of the notice sent to all Post members, the Commander turned to PC Roland Caron for remarks. Caron gave a detailed resume of the efforts of the committees in their intensive efforts to locate a suitable site. He gave a figure of $25,000.00 as the amount already acquired by the Building Fund Committee as a result of their operation of the weekly raffle. PC Caron also gave a detailed account of the conferences held between the committees and the bank officials covering specifically the stipulation outlined, suitable financing and good marketable property.

The motion to make this purchase was made by PC Caron and seconded by PC John Bisset.

Following the motion the members entered into an intense and enlightening discussion relation to the purchase.

The motion to move the question was made by G. Sargent and seconded by Jim Clemons.

The result of the secret ballot was determined to be 29 nays and 41 yeas. The motion was defeated. Three quarter vote in the affirmative was required (53).

Commander Ledoux adjourned the meeting at 3:05 PM.
