" Edmund F. Sweeney (pictured) was elected commander of the James E. Coffey post, American Legion, last night at the annual election of officers.
He will succeed Ray E. Wesson who presided. A joint installation of the new post officers with the auxiliary will be held tomorrow night.
Sweeney is a World War Two veteran with service in the European Theater of Operations with the Third Army. He is a past president of the NH Funeral Directors association, past grand knight of Nashua council, Knights of Columbus and past president of the Young Business Men's Club. He also served as chairman of the repatriation of World War Two dead.

Alternates elected were: Aime A. Auclair, Donald C. Ellingwood, William T. Mulligan and Albert H. Coffey.

The first reading of the annual budget was held with the final reading to be held in June.
The revised by-laws were read and accepted and a rising vote of thanks was given to Atty. Richard J. Welch and his committee for the service rendered to the post.
Plans were made by the post to participate in the memorial service at Main St. Methodist church on Sunday, May 19, and in the Memorial Day parade May 30.
Roland A. Caron, entertainment chairman, reported the All-Girl Polkarettes Band from Lowell would be featured at the Polish-Lithuanian night in the post home May 18.”
