" Keen interest in two contested offices resulted in some 200 members of James E. Coffey post, American Legion, jamming the Legion meeting quarters last evening for the annual election of officers. The attendance was the largest noted at any post meeting since the end of World War Two.
Main attraction of the evening was the battles for the offices of junior vice commander and treasurer, Wally Estes was elected junior vice commander when he polled 105 votes to Robert S. Mercer's 86 while Richard J. McDonald was elected treasurer, defeating Robert S. Whitney, 116 to 76.
Other highlights of the evening were the presentation of a lifelong membership award to Edgar E. Lemire, former treasurer and the election of delegates and alternates to the annual convention of the NH Department to be held in Dover, June 17, 18 and 19.
Mr. Lemire, treasurer for the past 13 years, who declined the nomination of office last month, was presented with a gold life card by Commander Chester J. McKuskie.
