In December of 1917 Roscoe "Dusty" Rhodes was named the Captain of the Cornhusker football team. Rhodes was killed in action in France in 1918 during World War I. The University of Nebraska wanted to honor Rhodes by naming the new football stadium in his honor. His family declined and said that the name should honor all Nebraskans who were killed in the war. The University instead named it Memorial Stadium. Rhodes is a namesake of the Ansley American Legion.
