WOODBURY – The Woodbury Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 9024 and the Woodbury American Legion Post 501 hosted a Joint Annual Awards banquet on February 20, 2020 at the Green Mill Restaurant in Woodbury.   The awards were hosted by VFW Post 9024 Commander, Paul Lindahl and American Legion Post 501 Commander, Tom Grezek.  

 

The following awards were presented.

            Community Service Award – Curt Cruz, Valley Creek Marketing Event Coordinator for his support of Woodbury American Legion Poppy Days and Wall of Thanks.

 

            Public Safety Awards – Police Officer Brett Roddy, Firefighter Fire Fighter Mike Richardson, Emergency Medical Technician Katie Cafferty

 

            Patriot’s Pen Awards for Sixth to Eighth grade essays on “What Makes America Great”

                        1st Place – Siddharth Radhakrishnan, Woodbury Middle School

                        2nd Place – Mikayla Berger, Woodbury Middle School

                        3rd Place (tie) – Tomi Omiwade, Woodbury Middle School and Anna Woolf, New Life Academy

 

Voice of Democracy Awards for Ninth to Twelfth grade students - This is an annual VFW nationwide scholarship program. 

                        1st Place – Quinn Bruning, Woodbury High School

                        2nd Place – Brian Brady, Woodbury High School

                        3rd Place – Kathryn Garvin, Woodbury High School

 

Teacher of the Year.

                        Woodbury Elementary School – Julie Olson

                        Woodbury Middle School – Laurie Beebe

                        Woodbury High School – Thomas Petzold

Each awardee was also recognized as VFW District 4 Teachers of the year.

 

Additionally, VFW Post 9024 provided cash awards to the Patriot Honor Guard and the Woodbury Air Force Junior ROTC unit.
