Meeting Minutes January 23, 2020

Opening Ceremonies

Salute Flag, Prayer, Placement of POW-MIA Flag, Pledge of Allegiance, Recite Preamble.

 

Previous Meeting’s Minutes

December 19, 2019 Meeting Minutes were not approved since they were unavailable to be read by Post members at the meeting.

 

Treasurer’s Report

Financial report was read by the Commander.  A motion was made by Dale to accept and enter them into record, Henry seconded the motion and the motion was passed.

 

Membership

131 members have renewed for 2020. The post is currently at 94% of goal.

 

Communications

An article was published in the Woodbury Magazine in their January 2020 edition. The article was focused on the American Legion as a whole, Post 501 and their involvement in the Woodbury Community.  Also social event was conducted on 12 January to see the movie 1917 at the Woodbury 10 Theater.  Five of our members and 2 wives were in attendance.  Fun was had by all.

 

Service Officer

No Service Officer report was given at the meeting.

 

Donation Committee

There were four requests for donations.  A $50 & $100 donations were approved for the Randolph MN Scout Troop and the South St Paul HS Packer Trap team respectively.

 

Old Business

·       Another appeal for a volunteer for the Post Chaplain position was given.  There were no volunteers or suggested candidates that we could pursue.

·       The Joint American Legion/VFW Awards ceremony is set for 20 Feb at the Green Mill Restaurant.  The invites have been sent out.  The post will be awarding a plaque to Mr. Kurt Cruz.  Mr Cruz is the manager of the Valley Creek Mall and has supported the Post with Poppy Days and the Wall of Thanks for many years.

·       The money donation for the new flags for the Armed Forces Services Center has been sent.

New Business

·       The Woodbury Lions Veterans Memorial Council has set their annual flag budget at $2,000.  The funding is used for the maintenance, repair, or replacement of the flags at the veterans memorial at City Hall.

·       The coordination for the 2020 Poppy Days is underway.  Poppy Days will be on 24-26 Apr and the retailers that we used last year have been secured. An order for 6,000 poppies have been made and will be delivered in April.  Dale Johnson will be going out to the Post members to sign up for time slots.  He emphasized that Fri is the important day to get Post members to volunteer for.  Sat and Sun we will have the AFROTC cadets to help fill in the slots.

·       Russ Bentley announced that the Joint American Legion/VFW picnic will be held on 11 Aug 20.

Announcements

·       Thank you notes were received from The Journey Home, the Christian Cupboard, Hastings VA Home, and the Veterans Campground on Big Marine Lake for the donations that we made as a result of this year’s Wall of Thanks.

·       Commander Tom Grezek, Vice Commander Bob Dolan, and Dale Johnson will be representing the Post at the 3rd District Midwinter conference at the Lonsdale Post on 25 Jan.

·       Hauly Moua was introduced to the Post as a new transfer from the South St Paul Post.  Mr Moua is a Vietnam veteran who fought along side US soldiers as part of the US Secret Army.
