The Kasson American Legion Charter is Established

Aug 10, 1920

The Kasson American Legion was chartered on August 10, 1920 making it the 333rd charter in MN. Though the exact history of how the Legion came to be called Adolph Oiseth has been lost, it is known that Gustav Adolph Oiseth, born in 1894, was the first Kasson resident killed in WWI.  He died in France in 1918, and is buried in the Maple Grove Cemetery.  Legion members initially held their meetings in the upstairs..

A 17 ton boulder is brought into the town of Kasson, destined to be the 1st Freedom Rock® in Minnesota.  Created by artist, Ray Michael Sorensen II, every Freedom Rock® is a tribute to the men and women who have served in the service.

Freedom Rock® Dedication

The Freedom Rock® is dedicated with a ceremony that is attended by hundreds despite a downpouring of rain.  Spam burgers are served in memory of our troops and the crowd enjoys the music of country band, Branded, well into the afternoon.
