Floyd Goodell is going to get a special 93rd birthday present Saturday - he will be the grand marshal of the Armed Forces Day Parade.
Goodell is the last known World War I veteran in the area. He is a retired automobile dealer who was chief of the volunteer fire department for 33 years.
More than 50 units are expected to participate in the parade, which will begin at 1 pm at the Big D Restaurant parkling lot on Main Street.
The parade sponsor is Carson City American Legion Post 380. Groups invited to participate include American Legion ad Veterans of Foreign Wars posts and 40 et 8 voitures from Montcalm, Gration, Clinton, Ionia, Saginaw, Shiawassee and Kent counties. The Lansing and Ionia chapters of the Vietnam Veterans of American also have been invited to participate.
A citywide garage sale and craft show will be held in conjunction with the parade.
