In a follow up to the timeline story of Everett Square being renamed to John F. Glass Square, American Legion Post 64 Commander and Historian Bob Lessard wrote the following letter to Mr. Jonathan Gulliver, Dept of Transportation Administrator.

Dear sir,

As Commander of Middleboro's Simeon L. Nickerson Post 64 American Legion, I wish to advise the Massachusetts Department of Transportation that legally there should not be an "Everett Square" in the Town of Middleboro.

During a special town meeting of June 18, 1929, the legal name of that square was voted to be named John Glass Jr Square through the petition of  Simeon L. Nickerson Post 64.

Voters at that special town meeting voted.."wishing to honor the honorable service and supreme sacrifice during the World War of a young man and citizen of this town, the name of Everett Square be changed to John Glass Jr Square."

It was on on October 26, 1918 when John Glass Jr was killed in action. It is nearly 100 years since he sacrificed his life for his town and country. And it has been nearly 90 years since the citizens of Middleboro voted to name the square after him.

The current plans of the DOT should include signage, which indictaes that the square is dedicated to WW1 casualty John Glass Jr.

Our Post 64 members endorse measures that would properly highlight Private John Glass, Jrs memory. Please make every effort to recognize, along with the citizens of the Town of Middleboro to remember the loss of one of ours during "the war to end all wars."

Thank you for your kind concern in the important matter.

Respecfully,

Bob Lessard

Commander, American Legion Post 64
