
Middleborough's Simeon L. Nickerson Post 64 American Legion will be sending four Middleboro students to the upcoming week long youth cadet law enforment Student Trooper training program. The Massachusetts State Police conduct the program at their academy in Braintree, Massachusetts.
The four students are being sponsored by Post 64. The quartet from Middleboro High School Brandon Buote, top left; Tyler Tobias, top right; Cameron Rideout, bottom left and Travis Colby, bottom right.
The successful candidates presented good moral character, good academic status and present a well groomed appearance. According to the State Police website concerning the Student Trooper Program "is an intensive one week residential learning experience for young adults, age 15-17." The same instructors, who tarin State Police officers, will provide training for the attendees.
The course uses a "para-military approach to training and discipline is strict The program is designed to expose young adults to the demands of police training." Classroom and hands on training in topics such as First Aid/CPR, Criminal Law, Officer Safety, Crime Scenes, Safe Driving, Team Building and Physical Fitness." Students will also observe demonstrations of tactical teams, a K-9 unit presentation and the State Police Air Wing,
The membership of Post 64 wish to thank the Middleborough Police Superior Officers and the NE Police Benevolent Association Local 76 for sponsoring two of our local Student Trooper applicants.
