At the March meeting of the American Legion Simeon L. Nickerson Post 64, the members gathered to honor the family of Bill and Cindy Seckinger, owners of Muckey's Liquor Store in Lakeville. For over a decade the Seckingers have not only worked with local veterans but have supported their many fundraising activities.
It all started when then Post Commander Don Triner and Past Commander Bob Burke attended their fist Department Convention and found a case of beer waiting which had been donated by Mr. Seckinger. And the support continued with their overwhelming support of the Middlebourough Veterans Memorial Park, being a part of Middleboro's annual Taste of Middleboro and Comfort Warriors dinners at Oak Point and countless donations such as raffle prizes.
Then, 3 years ago, Bill got the idea that he wanted a mural honoring local veterans inside the liquor store. The process of finding pictures to use on the mural began and Bill soon saw what a big project this was becoming. He, then got Budwiser involved to help pay for and design the mural. The finished mural is an image of the Veterans Memorial Park at the Town Hall.Bill then purchased a TV to be mounted near the mural with a continuous slide show running during business hours. A image of the mural is featured in the Post Timeline dated December 14, 2015.
Mr Seckinger, for the past 2 years, has allowed members of Post 64 and Post 64 Auxiliary to greet customers under a tent to help recruit members and their families.
At the March meeting, the Seckinger family was honored with a plaque and Bill given a membership to Sons of the American Legion and Cindy a member of the Auxiliary.
