.......Four Middleboro High School students will attend a week long Student Trooper program staged at the Massachusetts State Police Academy in New Braintree. The students, who will attend the highly disciplined event, have displayed an interest in police work and law enforcement.
.......The quartet of students, who will participate in the Student Trooper activities, are Brianna Alden, Olivia Benson, Mackenzie Jones and Cody Soderlund.
.......This program is sponsored locally by Middleboro’s Simeon L. Nickerson Post 64 American Legion.
.......An informational packet distributed by the American Legion and the Massachusetts State Police Academy states in part:.. “The Student Trooper program is not a summer camp…” and “…program is designed to expose young adults to the demands of police training...”
.......Further, the packet informs participants:..“The Massachusetts State Police Academy uses a paramilitary approach to training, and discipline is strict.” Also, the participants learn that: “….reveille is at 5:30 a.m. and lights out at 10 p.m.”
.......Two of the participating Middleboro Student Troopers, Brianna Alden and Olivia Benson, are sponsored by the Middleboro Police Superior Officers and the NE Police Benevolent Association, Local 76.
