West Point Scout Camporee.
.........WEST POINT, NEW YORK:- Sixteen Middleboro residents associated with Boy Scout Troop 64, sponsored by the Simeon L. Nickerson Post 64 American Legion, recently attended a weekend, April 28-30th, camporee at the United States Military Academy at West Point in New York.
........Led by Scoutmaster Barry Schuster, the group included Troop leaders: James Desmond, Nick Gerrior and Nicholas Gerrior, Thomas Grant; Assistant Scoutmasters; Donald Baldwin. Committee Member; and parents, Christine Spores and Fernando Augusto.
.........Boy Scouts, who participated in this event, were Kaleb Augusto, Eric Baldwin, James Baldwin, Joshua Desmond, Jack Gerrior, Jack LeGendre, David LeGendre and Trevor Peterson.
........According to Scoutmaster Schuster, there were over 6,000 scouts in attendance. The Middleboro scouts were involved in numerous challenging activities during the weekend. Among the activities were fitness, drill, first aid, Zodiac, knot tying and fire building. The most challenging involved a three mile hike up Bull Hill.
...........The Troop 64 Scouts took second place in the marching drill during the competition."I can't be more proud of the boys," said Scoutmaster Schuster. "after all there were 6,000 scouts on site and our Middleboro entry scored really well."
...........He also gave credit to Air Force Veteran Bruce Wright for instructing the group. Wright is in charge of the Middleboro Veterans Honor Guard.
