
……….MIDDLEBORO:-A large group of veterans and their guests, attended the annual Middleboro Veterans Day breakfast on Wednesday, November 9, 2016. The annual event was held at John F. Glass, Jr., Post 2188 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and featured as guest speaker was Francisco Urena Massachusetts’ Secretary of Veterans Services.
………..This annual breakfast was co-sponsored by the Middleboro Veterans Council, which includes the Simeon L. Nickerson Post 64 American Legion, the above named host Post 2188 VFW, the William F. Reardon Chapter 57 of the Disabled American Veterans and the Oak Point Veterans Association.
………. Before the meal was served a blessing of thanks was given by Vietnam veteran Walter
Elliot. who serves as Chaplain for American Legion Post 64, D.A.V. Chapter 57 and the VFW Post 2188.
………...Head table guests included, Commander John Linehan of D.A.V. Chapter 57, Bob Lessard, Commander of the Middleboro Veterans Council and American Legion Post 64, Walter Elliot, above named chaplain, and Bill Tubman of VFW Post 2188 and State Representative Keiko Orrall and State Senator Michael Rodrigues.
…………Mr. Urena was invited to speak at the breakfast by Middleboro’s Veterans Service Officer, who organizes the event for the council.
…………The Commonwealth’s top representative for veterans addressed the attendees and thanked them for their service. He personally thanked each and every veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars while pinning them with a commemorative medal authorized by the Department of Defense.
....And, Mr. Arena was personally introduced to each and every veteran, who he thanked for their service. He then posed in group photos with the veterans from various wars and branches of the service. ..........(Posted by Historian Bob Lessard.)
