.......Lakeville:-12-17-2015:- SPECIAL TO MIDDLEBORO GAZETTE BY BOB BURKE, POST 64 ADJUTANT
.......Last Monday Cindy and Bill Seckinger owners of Muckey’s Liquors in Lakeville dedicated a wall to
all veterans. Both of their fathers served over 20 years in the Military, so they can
appreciate what service men, women, and their families go through.
........When Bill came up with an idea to use his wall to honor veterans. He contacted Tim
and Gerry Sheehan at the L. Knife & Son Distribution Company. They loved the idea and asked
Budweiser to get involved.
......Bill then contacted Don Triner Commander of the American Legion Post 64 in Middleborough
and Bob Burke the Adjutant at Post 64 explaining what the mural would look like. Both signed
onto the project right away.
......The people at Budweiser not only assign Tennyson Lacasio to create the mural, also built
the wall and had the mural printed and installed.
......Over 175 veterans were in attendance. Speaking at the dedication were Bill, Tim
Sheehan, Gerry Sheehan, Statehouse Representative Keiko Orall and Statehouse Representative
Tom Calter. Special guest COL Frank Curtis who served for over 30 years in the United States
Army Reserve along with three deployments to harms way. A native of Boston the Colonel spoke on
the importance supporting veterans that are away and those that have completed their service.
......Then came the unveiling. The Middleborough's town hall and the Veterans War Memorial in
the background and the Veterans Council Honor Guard standing at attention. What a site it is
breathtaking, everybody loves It. (Posted by Bob Lessard, Historian Post 64)
.....................................HISTORIAN'S NOTES
.......Veterans, who attended the Muckey's unveiling, were without a doubt impressed with the
magnitude and photo compilation of the mural. Blended photos show Middleboro's Veterans
Memorial Park, which sits on the town hall lawn. Middleboro's Veterans Honor Guard firing squad
is seen in the forefront, while to the rear in the park is another group of Honor Guard
members. The 1873 Town Hall plays a prominent role overlooking the scene.
.......Ninety-Five year-old WW2 Army veteran Russell Pittsley, who is an active member of the
Middleboro Veterans Honor Guard firing squad, was the first interviewed and he uttered
emphatically the word "fanatastic. The thing is great!"
.......Norman Record, Commander of the Middleboro Veterans Council, described his view of the
70 by 15 wall, as "excellent job. I take my hat off to Budweiser and the graphic guy. The mural
makes a good memory of Adrian Haynes." (Note:- Mr. Haynes is seen in the front of the center
panel as a member of the firing squad. He passed in 2014.)
.......Bill Franks, who directs the firing squad, said "Its amazing what the graphic guy has
done." He then described meeting graphic artist Tennyson Lacasio at the ceremony. "He explained
how he had moved my picture from one photo to another. I thanked him and Bill Seckinger for
their involvement."
.......Past Post 64 vice-commander, Charles Griffin remarked, " What a great way to honor
veterans. I can't think of a better way. It's really fantastic."
.......Middleboro Veterans Honor Guard contact person Bruce Wright stated, "It's great. The
graphic artist did a tremendous job. I don't think anyone would have a complaint about the
results."
......."I think is is an outstanding tribute to veterans. I commend Muckey's," said Walter D.
Campbell, Jr., a retired U.S. Navy Senior Chief.
....... Bob Jordan, a Vietnam War Army veteran, said, "It's great. The guy who put this
together is a tremendous artist. What a nice job. I've never seen anything like this."
