.....Middleboro's Kiwanis Club conducted a fund raising event related to honoring veterans in
relation to Veterans Day on November 11. Residents were asked their help in honoring
veterans. With a donation of $10, each donor was able to dedicate a veterans' flag in honor of
any U. S. veteran.
.....The flags were presented in a grid formation on the town hall in close proximity to
Middleboro's Veterans Memorial Park. Two large sign boards held the sponsored names of
veterans, which included men and women currently serving in our Armed Forces.
One board contained a list of servicemen from Middleboro who were casualties of war. Included
in that list was Navy Corpsman Wayne M. Caron, Medal of Honor recipient, a casualty of the Viet
Nam war.
....Middleboro's veterans organizations were very supportive of the Kiwanis project. Funds were
donated by the Oak Point Veterans Association, John F. Glass, Jr VFW Post 2188, the Middleboro
Veterans Council and the Simeon L. Nickerson Post 64 American Legion.
....Past Post 64 Commander Paul Provencher and member Paul Kreitzberg, who are members of the
Middleboro Veterans Memorial Park, were mentioned for a special thanks for their help with the
project.
....Over 300 flags were sponsored for the Flag of Valor display as a fitting tribute to our
veterans.
