............Members of the Middleboro Veterans Honor Guard participated in a special flag

presentation for students of the Mary K. Goode and Henry B. Burkland elementary schools, grades

1-5, on Monday, November 9, 2015. Combined, nearly 1200 students attended the pre-Veterans Day

event.

........In two separate displays, the Honor Guard performed an American flag folding ceremony

and displayed service flags for the youngsters. Nearly 600 students from the Goode School

attended the first presentation under the direction of Principal Lisa Andrade.

........Legion member Paul Krietzberg explained the history of the American flag and the

reasons for the various folds. Bruce Wright and Charles Griffin displayed and folded the flag.

........Burkland school students led by Principal Derek Thompson numbered just over 600

individuals for the second display. The Honor Guard again presented the various service flags

and flag folding for that group.

........Past Commander of Simeon L. Nickerson Post 64 American Legion Paul Provencher led a

question and answer session for the students.

........Students from the Goode School, Ryan, Nicole and Conor, held a huge sign which read:

“Thank you for your service to our country and for protecting us.” Several other students,

Alexa and Kayla presented “thank you” cards to Honor Guard members on behalf of their Goode

School classmates. Burkland student Joshua did the same for his school.

.........Participating with the Honor Guard were Al Aissner, Bob Jordan, Jim Cadorette, John

Costa, Bill Franks, Paul Provencher, Tex Washburn, Paul Krietzberg, Bruce Wright, Mary Standish

and Charles Griffin.

........The Middleboro Gazette of November 12,2015 printed a front page photo and highlighted

the flag display on page three with four more photos. Post 64 Historian Bob Lessard took the

documenting photographs.
