.............The Middleborough Veterans’ Council Honor Guard will be the Grand Marshalls for

Veterans’ Day 2015 in Middleborough. (Information released by Paul Provencher, Past Commander

of Simeon L. Nickerson Post 64,American Legion.)

......The Middleborough Veterans’ Council will be honoring Russell Pittsley and Walter

Campbell, Jr., this Veterans Day as the senior representatives of the Middleborough Veterans’

Council Honor Guard.

.......Russell is 95 years young and an active member of the 21 gun salute team on the honor

guard. Walter is 86 years old and has been involved with honor guard events since he learned to

play TAPS on the bugle at the age of 7 as a member of the a member of the Sons of the American

Legion under the Simeon L. Nickerson American Legion post 64 here in Middleborough.

..................THE MIDDLEBOROUGH VETERANS' DAY EVENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

.......VETERANS DAY BREAKFAST: A Veterans’ Day breakfast will be held on Wednesday, 4 November

at 9:00 a.m. at the John Glass,Jr., Post 2188 VFW for Middleborough veterans and one guest.

Reservations are needed for this event. Call Paul Provencher at 508 946 2407 early to ensure a

seat. We will only be able to accommodate 150 at the breakfast.

.......AMERICAN LEGION POPPY DRIVE: The American Legion poppy drive will run from Wednesday, 4

November, 2015 until after the parade and ceremony on Veterans’ Day. Please make sure that you

honor the veterans. They will be around the community as they take part in their annual poppy

drive.

.......VETERANS DAY CHURCH SERVICE: The Veterans’ Day church service will take place on Sunday,

8 November at 11:00 a.m. at the Central Baptist Church on the corner of Nickerson Ave and Union

St. Veterans and auxiliary members of the veterans’ organizations are asked to be at the church

by 10:45 a.m. so that final preparations can be made on marching into the service.

........VETERANS DAY PARADE: The Veterans’ Day parade will be stepping off at 10:00 a.m. on

Wednesday, 11 November, 2014 from the Middleborough Town Hall parking lot. Vehicles will be

available in the parade for all veterans that can no longer march the parade route. Please let

Paul Provencher (508) 946 2407 know of your need to be in a vehicle. Participants are asked to

form up starting at 9:30am. The parade route will be same as it has been over the past few

years.

........BOY SCOUTS AND GIRL SCOUTS are invited to be in the parade: Local scouting

organizations and other groups are invited to take part in the parade. If an organization

intends to have a float in the parade they are asked to keep in mind that Veterans’ Day is a

time to honor the men and women that served in the military and to preserve our

American way of life. If there are any questions about this please call Paul Provencher 508 946

2407 for guidance.

.........VETERANS' DAY CEREMONY: The Veterans' Day ceremony will take place at the Middleborough

Veterans' Memorial Park on the town hall lawn at the conclusion of the parade. This ceremony

will focus on honoring Russell Pittsley & Walter Campbell along with all the members of the

Middleborough Veterans’ Council Honor Guard.

.........RAIN CONTINGENCY PLAN: In case of rain on Veterans' Day the Middleborough Police

department will be notified of the cancellation of the parade as early as possible by the

commander of the Middleborough Veterans' Council. If it rains,the Veterans' Day ceremony will

still take place at 10:00 a. m. on that day in the auditorium of the Middleborough town hall.

..........FORMAL FLAG RETIREMENT CEREMONY: Oak Point Veterans’ Association American Flag

Retirement Ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 28th, at 10 a.m. The solemn Ceremony of

Retiring the Flags in a manner befitting of our Country will commence at 10:30 a.m. Please

bring your friends and especially your children and grand children to observe what is our

patriotic duty.. Each year well over 2500 flags of all sizes are retired. Everyone in

attendance that would like to be a part of the ceremony can take one or more flags from the Oak

Point Ballroom, where the ceremony will be held, to the area in the parking lot where they will

be turned over to members of the Oak Point Veterans' Association for their proper retirement.
