Susan Callan, James Cadorette and Joel Pickering, Middleboro High School Juniors, will be representatives to Girls State and Boys State, it was announced today by MHS Principal Kenneth L. Johnson.
Susan, daughter of Atty. and Mrs. Paul R. Callan, has participated in field hockey and track. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, class vice-president, Student Activity Committee, choir, and Citizen's Scholarship Foundation Committee. She is employed part time as a lifeguard at the Mayflower-Burkland complex. After high school, Susan would like to attend the University of Notre Dame. She plans to study medicine.
James, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Cadorette of 104 North Street, is a junior at Middleboro High School and has been in freshman choir, a cappella choir, Men's Glee Club, Chamber Singers, SEMSBA Chorus, Class Council, Student Council representative, the president of his young adult church group, and is on the boys' tennis team. He plans to go into thefield of dentistry after high school.
Joel, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Pickering of 89 Pierce street, played trumpet in the MHS band, is active in the school choir and Men's Glee Club. He is a particioant in track and is on the championship Boys'Cross Country team. Well known among the students, Joel was elected by his class to the Student Council and recognized for his school spirit by the Silver "M" Society. Joel is a member of the Student Advisory Board. He hopes to attend Syracuse University andmajor in forestry.
Girls State will be held June 15-20 and Boys State,June 22-27, both at Bridgewater State College.
The students were selected by the entire faculty from moninations submitted to the History Department. Simeon L. Nickerson Post 64 American Legion funded the students participation in the Girls and Boy State events.
