April 1971
………………………. Copies of “NICKERSON NEWS” have been printed and mailed by Post 64 Publicist John
Rockwell, Jr., and Ernest “Ernie” Montrond, who comprise the “News” staff of this publication.
As members know, this timely bulletin is printed and mailed eleven times a year.
……….. As we go to press, our membership stands at 215 for 1971. A few of our regulars have not
yet paid up for the year. In order to keep a continuous membership, 1971 dues should be paid
up before the new 1972 cards are out.
……….Due to the increase in the State (Department of Massachusetts) per capita tax last year,
your Post was forced to raise its dues from $5.00 to $6.00 to cover the amount forwarded to
the Department for each member. This is the first increase in dues by our Post in quite a
number of years.
……….Please Notes : The majority of members pay their dues by mail to our Finance Officer,
Ralph Mendall. Please note his new address:….. R. F. D. #4, Box 396 C, Middleboro, Mass 02346.
………COMING POST MEETING………..***** VERY IMPORTANT…..The next regular meeting of your Post will
be held on Monday, April 5 at 8:00 p.m. sharp at our Post quarters, 13 South Main Street. ALL
PAST COMMANDERS ARE URGENTLY REQUESTED TO ATTEND !! For the many members of our Post, who have
frequently said, “Some day I’ve got to attend a meeting to what the hall looks like now,”
please make it THIS month.
……..Among other items listed in NICKERSON NEWS in this edition were announcements for the
Memorial Association meeting after the regular business; a 10th District Get-Together on April
17; Auxiliary meeting date for April 2nd rummage sale; April 10 President’s parley and a Roll
Call Supper on May 17.
………Past Post Commander Ernie Monrond sent a “THANK YOU” to the membership for its support
during his unsuccessful campaign for the high office of Department Commander. He pointed out
that there 996 votes cast and that he lost by only 25 votes. “ I have heard nothing but the
highest praise from the supporters of the winning candidate for the manner in which members of
our Post and Auxiliary conducted themselves during the campaign.”
Ernie gave “special thanks to Past Commander John Gilfoy, who gave his all on my behalf,”
wrote the candidate.....(Posted by Bob Lessard Historian 2014.)
