6-1-67………………….Two Chosen for Boys State

Two junior boys of the Memorial Junior High School have been chosen to attend the 1967

session of Boys’ State, sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of the American Legion,

Commander John T. Gilfoy, Jr., of the Simeon L. Nickerson Post 64 here announced today.

Named to participate in the annual workshop in the organization and operation of state

government are Robert W. Whitaker, 3rd, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Whitaker, Jr., of 1777

Plymouth Street (on the right) and Alan Iampietro, son of Mrs. Nellie Iampietro and the late Michael

Iampietro of 1157 Centre Street (on the left), both of whom will be sponsored by the local Legion Post.

Robert is active in high school music, being a member of the marching band, orchestra and

dance band. He is also a member of the Junior Class Council and the high school golf club. He

is a member of the Central Baptist Church and is Vice President of the Baptist Youth

Fellowship. He also plays in the Lord Randall’s Orchestra.

Alan is a member of the Silver “M” Society and the student council. He is also in the high

school dance band and plays baseball with the school team. He has participated in the Little

League baseball program. He attends Sacred Heart Church and works part time at the Middleboro

Gazette office.

The 1967 Boys’ State will be held from June 16 through 24 at Amherst. The Middleboro boys

will participate in the organization of political parties, campaigns, elections and the

enforcement of their own laws within the mythical 51st state.
