22-1952….Middleboro Gazette
Carnival dates for Simeon L. Nickerson Post 64, American Legion and John Glass, Jr., Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, had to be settled by tossing a coin. Both veteran’s organizations wanted the week of July 7. Chairman of Selectmen Ralph W. Maddigan, Jr., tossed the coin at the meeting of the Selectmen Monday night.
Alton Kramer, of the Legion Post, called tails, when Chairman Maddigan tossed a coin Town Manager Roger W. MacDonald had handed him high in the air. The coin landed on the floor in front of the chairman’s chair. Tails were up.
The toss gave the Legion the week of July 7 and as by a previous ruling of the Board. Three weeks must elapse between carnivals. This left the VFW with the week of June 9 as the latest it can hold a carnival, if it has one.
Anthony A. Petrowski represented the VFW. The Legion was not represented at first, but after a
telephone call by Selectman John A. Washburn, Mr. Kramer came to the meeting. It really was a meeting to get the carnival dates settled.

The members of the Local Post are conducting the affair themselves and the merchandise for the booths is supplied by the Sears Company of Manchester, NH.
