.......A letter sent to Commander Edward C. Bailey of the Simeon L. Nickerson Post 64 from the

Institute For American Democracy, Inc., 11 Beacon Street, Boston, dated March 29, 1945,

advised the Post that a package of posters was being forwarded.

......The letter reads: Dear Comm. Bailey,

…….”I had a talk with the State Commander Thomas F. Mackey and we agreed that your Post would

appreciate the posters for Unity, Democracy and the Four Freedoms that are distributed by our

office.

……..I am therefore sending to you in a mailing tube a set of our posters for you to display at

your headquarters.

……..These posters were prepared by leading national advertising agencies to help meet our

patriotic obligation to preserve unity and to educate the public in democratic ideals.

……..Patriotic citizens are helping pay the entire cost, so the posters come to you free of

charge and postpaid.

…….. With sincere appreciation of your cooperation, I am

....... The Institute For Amereican Democracy, Inc., had its national headquarters at 369

Lexington Avenue in New York City. Its membership was comprised of many church

groups,including Temple Israel in New York; the Greater New York Federation of Churches;

Episcopal Diocese of Newark; plus the unions of A.F.L. and that of the C.I.O.; B'nai B'rith

of Omaha as well as many institutions of learning.
