………Retrieved from Post Minutes: Upon recommendation of the Executive Committee, it was voted

to present to each Middleboro boy, who either enlists or is drafted from the local Selective

Service Board, a “Card of Introduction.” This is a form adopted by the National Legion.

.....The "introduction cards" will allow the soldier-holder to be a welcome guest at any

American Legion Post in the world. The card holder will be welcomed with hospitality,

according to the Executive Committee.

………This form will be signed by the Commander of Post 64 and the President of the Auxiliary.

This program will show our boys that we are ever on the alert to act in their welfare. It will

also help make their lives in the service happier ones.

……….The sum of $50 was voted to purchase postage and envelopes. It was also voted that the

sons and daughters of Legion members should enclose a letter with their card. Past Commander

William Begley made a generous offer to print and prepare the letter. He was given many thanks

for his kind offer.

………A committee consisting of Arthur Hall, Harry Schofield, Louis Cole and William Begley were

elected to consummate this project. It was revealed that Past Commander Fletcher Clark, Jr.,

has a very good list of these men and their addresses. PC Clark will make the list available

for our use.

......August 2, 1943:- As Chairman of the Hospitality Card committee, Art Hall reported that

over 500 cards had been dispatched by mail and that 50 more were going out.

......September 7 :- Since the August meeting acknowledgements of Hospitlity Cards were

received from the following: Wendell P. Eldredge, Joseph Andrada, Martin B. Mulken, A. G.

Smith, Henry R. Malnfant, W. A. Benton, R. M. Beals, George Walker, Sylvester Sylvis, Capt D.

R. Kinzie, Lt. Mary A. Canning, Arthur Alden and Joseph Letourneau.

.......October 4:- Hospitality Card acknowledgements were read from the following World War 2

military members: Gairad Young, Ralph A. Serra, Mary A. Moles, Charles A. Conant and Freddie

DesRosiers.

........A few comments of soldier/sailor responses taken from their "thank you" letters

include those of Robert Smith, stationed with Company "M" 347th Infantry 87th Division, Ft.

Jackson, S.C.,"I believe the American Legion is practically the father of the boys n this war.

May your organization continue to serve our nation."

........Kenneth Truesdale, serving in the Navy as a S 2/c, remarked, " I'll get good use of

the card. Looking forward to active participation in your organization."

........ Harry Anderson, Jr., who is a Lt. CEC-V (s) USNR, serving in San Francisco with the

Navy Department Bureau of Yards and Docks, wrote : "This expression of interest in the

Servicemen by the home Legion is very thoughtful."

......... Herbert Finneran, stationed at Camp Stewart in Georgia, wrote these comments, "I'll

take advantage of any Post of the American Legion these Southern states. Yours for a strong

Legion."

.................................Old Phonograph Record Collection

……..Department Headquarters sent a communication that there would be a campaign for the

collection of old phonograph records. The collection campaign is called "Records For Our

Fighting Men." The Post will participate in this collection. It was

voted that an item be printed in the Gazette to this effect.

………Commander Wright appointed a committee of three to care for this project. Appointed were PC
