January 4, 1937 :- ***** With 23 members present, meeting called to order by Commander Snow. A highlight of the evening was a special election for 1st Vice Commander, following the resignation of Raymond Langley. Louis Cole, 2nd V.C. was nominated and elected to replace Langley. Eugene Davis, 3rd V.C., was nominated and elected to the position of 2nd Vice Commander. Two members, Joseph LaValee and Henry Marois, were then placed in nomination for the 3rd seat. A vote by Australian ballot was taken and Marois was elected 3rd V.C. with 15 votes. All three V.C. were then installed by Fletcher Clark, Jr., and Joseph Dutra conducting. Voted to send Commander Snow, 1st V.C. Cole and Adjutant Begley to the banquet and reception for the National Commander on January 30, 1937. The sum of $3.00 for each ticket be appropriated for the occasion. Voted that $10 be used for the Depot Grove fee for a carnival this summer. Voted to pay $71.31 to the Memorial Association for lights, gas and janitor’s services.

February 1, 1937 :- ****** Meeting opened at 8:20 p.m. Financial report was read F.O. Thomas, who reported a balance of $338.51. P.C. P. J. McMahon reported on Red Cross work and flood relief. Membership was at 103, according to 1st V.C. Cole. Commander Snow reported on the National Commander night. Voted to pay $2.00 to H.F. Dunham for welfare work. Voted to buy 1500 poppies for Poppy-Day. Commander Snow, Louis Cole and Reginald Drake were named to 4th of July committee. A dance committee of George I. Dunham, Everett Saunders and Eugene Davis was voted. Three new members were initiated by 10th District Initiation Staff. They were Comrades Haywood, Bemis and Sturtevant. March 9, 1937 :- ****** At 8:10 meeting called to order with 18 present. Card inspection and colors advanced. Report of last meeting read and approved. The Feb 19 dance showed a profit of $20.15. It was voted to give the money to the Red Cross with $4.85 added to make the donation $25.00. 1st V.C. Cole reported membership at 117 members. He also reported on the last show, which showed a profit of $13.33. It was voted to pay the dues of George Vaughn, Charles Hall and John McNabb. P.C. Saunders read the financial report which showed a balance on hand of $319.75. He also presented all the bills against the Post. Voted to refer the bills to the Finance Committee and if found correct be paid. Voted to contact other organizations and see what the opinion is regarding the 4th of July Celebration. And, if they are in favor to go ahead as they think best. The school committee and School Supt. be contacted about the oratory contest if they would consider entering the contest. Adjourned at 9:55 P.M.

April 5, 1937 :- ******Officer and committee reports were read and approved. Financial balance is $263.52. Paid up membership is 135 for 1937. P.C. Saunders and 2nd V.C. Davis were appointed to assist 3rd V.C. Marois on Poppy Day sale. Saunders reported on the Twi-League ball team. It was voted that the Post raise $100 for uniforms and equipment. Voted to have a clam boil to celebrate reaching our membership quota. Named to the 4th of July celebration committee were Frank Diotte, John Sullivan, Edson Bemis, P. J. McMahon and Clarence Haywood. Voted $10.00 for the buying of wearing apparel for orphans of veterans. Voted $5.00 for Boy Scout drive. A nominating committee of 5 to bring a list of officers for our annual election of officers were voted in by the Adjutant who cast one vote for the committee. Those voted to the committee were Fred Wright, George Dunham, Edson Bemis, Alfred Mack and P.C. McCrillis. A letter written by Simeon L. Nickerson when in the service was given to the Post to go in the Post records by P.C. Saunders.

May 3, 1937 :- ***** Commander Snow called the meeting to order at 8:10 P.M. Reports were heard from the following committees: 4th of July, tree planting, nominating, membership, carnival and executive. F.O. reported $207.52 on hand as of May 1st, 1937. Motion made and voted that the Commander be authorized to raise the flag for deceased veterans of all wars. For Legion members 3 days and for all others day of the funeral only. Voted to hold a supper where roll call will be called and appropriate $20.00. Entertainment committee will take charge of the entertainment. Also voted to invite the Plymouth Voiture #49, 40 & 8 to the roll call supper and the Boards of Selectmen of Middleboro and Carver. Voted to donate $5.00 each to the Y.M.C.A. and the District Nurse Association. P. C. Saunders reported a very good baseball team lined up for the Legion. Voted $25.00 for part of the baseball equipment needed at once. Voted to hold a minstrel show in the Fall. Adjourned at 9:55 P.M.

June 7, 1937 : - ***** Called to order at 8:15 with 28 members and one visiting member, Department V. C. Hawes. Following normal exercises, F.O. reported $140.23 on hand. Third V.C. Marois reported on the Poppy Day sale with a total of $142.61. V.C. Hawes gave a talk on the 4 point peace program of the National dept. and also on state activities, which included the Widow and Orphans bill and the Veterans Preference Bill. Nomination and election of officers was next. The nominations were made with 1st V.C. Louis Cole being nominated for Commander. The adjutant cast one ballot for Cole for Commander. So voted. Elected for 1st V.C. Henry Marois; 2nd V.C. Eugene Davis; 3rd V.C. Horace Atkins; Adjutant H.F. Dunham; Finance Officer Ernest Thomas; Sgt @Arms John Sullivan; Historian Clifton McCrillis; Chaplain Reginald Drake; Americanization Officer John Hall; Judge Advocate Fletcher Clark,Jr.; and Athletic officer William Bernier. Elected to attend the State Convention in New Bedford were Dr.John Hall, Louis Cole and Snow. Alternates elected were P. J. McMahon, Frank Fiotte and Joseph Dutra. It was voted the Commander take charge of the drum corps. Voted the Post participate in the 4th of July celebration.

July 9, 1937 :- ***** Twenty-two members present at 8:05 for regular meeting. Bills were presented by F.O. Thomas and were referred to the Finance Committee. There is a reported balance of $144.77 on hand as of July 1, 1937. The carnival reported a profit of $257.01 according to 1st VC Cole. Comrade Hayward reported on the 4th of July Celebration. Voted that the installation of officers be held in the 4th week of September. Voted the Post purchase a new small flag for the Post building. Adjourned 9:15 P.M.

August 2, 1937 : - ******The Adjutant inspected membership cards and the colors were advanced as the meeting started with 17 members at 8:20 P.M. As of August 1, the Post has a balance of $410.46. Voted that letters be sent to our Congressman and Senators that the Post is 100% in favor of enactment of the Sheppard Hill Universal Service Bill S-25. At recommendation of the Executive Committee that $36.00 be appropriated for delegate expenses at the state Convention. Voted to endorse P.C. Dr. John H. Hall as 10th District Vice Commander. Voted a sum not to exceed $5.00 to assist his election. Commander Snow gave a report on the drum corps. A secret ballot was held to get sentiment of the Post regarding the continuance of the drum corps. Voted 13-3 to keep the drum corps going. A committee of seven members were named to assist the three now serving trying to keep the corps going. New committee members: Comrades Beech, Millette, McCrillis, Fuller, P. J. McMahon and Wm. J. McMahon. Appropriate $25.00 to pay the Adjutant’s salary.

September 13, 1937 : - ***** Commander Snow called the meeting to order with 33 present. Reports of the delegates to the State Convention were given by new Commander Cole for the first day; P. C. Hall reported on the second day and, Commander Snow for the third day. Finance officer Thomas reported as of September 13, 1937, a balance of $336.88. Voted to donate $25.00 as our share of the joint installation. Commander Snow reported on the drum corps meeting. It was voted 23-6 to disband the drum corps. All instruments held by Post members be held by them and non- members turnover all equipment of the drum corps to the Post. Voted to give members of the Post in the drum corps their coats. Voted to sell at $5.00 each the coats in the closet. A three member committee will be formed at the next meeting, which will include one former drum corps member, to decide how to spend the balance of money in the drum corps treasury. Nominations for Sgt. @ Arms with Frank Harris elected. Voted to purchase two cribbage boards and two checker boards.

November 1, 1937 : - *****Regular meeting called to order at 8 P.m. by Commander Louis Cole. A drum corps supper was held and P.C. Romeo Millette gave a report and also the Post that his committee was returning $5.70 to the Post treasury with all bills paid. Voted to accept a report by Commander Cole that $25.00 be donated to the Auxiliary with a letter of appreciation for their aid at drum corps supper. Adjutant Allen MacDonald submitted his resignation. Accepted with regrets. P.C. Everett Saunders was nominated and elected as Adjutant. He in turn resigned from the Executive Board. An election, after nominations, it was voted that Fred Wright replace Saunders. It was voted that Romeo Millette and Wm. McMahon, as a committee of two, collect coats and money from the former members of the drum corps. Voted $30.00 for the basketball team and to appropriate $20.00 for the membership committee. Also voted was $25.00 to purchase a second-hand typewriter for the Service Officer. Comrade Rogers of the Sons of the Legion requests that refunds from the sale of the drum corps clothes be turned over to his committee to be used in advancing a Sons of the Legion band. Voted that financing of Sons of Legion band be studied by Mr. Rogers’ committee and report results to Post at December meeting. Appropriate remarks by P.C. Marshall Snow and Chaplain Reginald Drake on keeping expenses within the budget.

December 6, 1937 : - With sixteen (16) members present at 8:10 P. M. the Adjutant check membership cards. Minutes of the November meeting were read and approved. Committee reports: Membership reported progress; Minstrel Show reported progress; Service Officer reported on purchase of typewriter; Sick Call and Relief, discussed what should be done for veterans in the hospital for Christmas; Executive Committee report was read; and, Finance officer Thomas reported a balance of $349.69. Voted a sum of $20 to be used for the Children’s Christmas party and for veteran’s baskets in the hospital. Voted to pay the Commander’s bill of 80 cents. Voted to pay $2.00 to John Conn for the wreath for the Armistice Day Celebration. And voted to pay the bill for the bond for our Finance Officer. Adjourned at 8:50.
