A temporary charter was issued to the Charles C. Kennedy Post 275 on January 12, 1922. An original charter was issued to the post on January 12, 1924 and a Legion Auxiliary charter was issued to the post in May 15, 1929.

The post's first meeting was held in the Red Man's hall and subsequent meetings were held in the Ashe Building, 97 Main Street, Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts.

The post's first Commander was Stanley Kumor. In the history of the post ( 93 years), their has been 64 elected commanders with 7 serving multiple years. Commander Robert Baranowski served 10 years( 1988-1998) while it's current Commander Louis Brault has served 15 years( 1999 to present )

The unit's first President was Claire Whalen elected in 1928 and served for 2 years.

In the post history of 93 years, their has been only two terms where a husband and wife lead the post as Commander and President. In 1953, Martin Kane and his wife Lauretta served the post and in 1989 Robert and Carolyn served in their perspective position for the next 3 years.
