Medal Presentation Ceremony
Cpl. Louis P. Roberge
June 6th 2014 American Legion Post 31 2pm
Mr. Roberge was born in Pawtucket,
RI on June 18, 1920. He has lived for
most of his life in Lewiston and
Auburn. He was a shoemaker when he
enlisted in the Army in January of
1941 and served for five years until
January of 1946. During his time of
service, he came home for leave and
met Juliette St. Marie. The two fell in
love, got engaged and married in
October of 1946. He worked for
twenty years doing piece work at Clark
shoe shop in Auburn. During that time
he and Juliette raised three children- two boys and a girl. In 1954, he
had saved enough money to buy a small house at 25 Drew Street
using the GI Bill. They still own and live in that home. After the
demise of the shoe industry, Louis found a job at the GE plant in
Auburn working the manual table saw. He worked as much overtime
as they would give him which was a significant amount. The work
was hard and hard on him physically but he was providing well for
his family. He has been retired for 25 years. After the kids were
grown and on their own, he and Juliette have started taking vacations
and enjoying life together. He is a member of the Knights of
Columbus at Holy Cross Parish where he and Juliette are regular
members.
A Special Thank to American Legion Alden M. Gayton Post 31 for taking
