From June 26 to July 2, 2016, Boys State and Girls State for the American Legion, Department of Louisiana at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA. Post 19 sponsored two individuals from Hathaway High School, Macie R. Turgeon (Girls State) and Gage A. Bouley (Boys State). In addition, Unit 19 of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary sponsored Reagan Edwards from Jennings High School. Over the years the Post and the Unit have sponsored High School seniors from both Jennings High School and Hathaway High School to attend Boys State and Girls State. Past Post Commander James "Jimmy" Richert, Jr. has orchestrated the Post's efforts in this important program for many years.
