Roy Smith Miller was one of the founding members of James O. Hall Post 19 of the American Legion, Department of Louisiana.  He was also the first Commander of Post 19.

 

Roy was born on February 6, 1894 and he died on December 28, 1932.  He is buried at Greenwood Cemetary in Jennings, LA.  He married Margaret Wiley on May 15, 1916.  They had 2 daughters, Marilyn and Patricia.

 

Prior to World War I Roy was an officer with the 1st Separate Troop, Louisiana Cavalry in Jennings, a National Guard unit.  This unit was activated for federal service during World War I.  The unit was redesignated as the Headquarters Troop, 42nd Division.  The 42nd Division, also known as the Rainbow Division, deployed for France in October of 1917 and returned to the United States in May of 1919.  The 42nd Division saw extensive combat during the war.
