Hutchinson Post to host the State Convention of Kansas’s American legion.

The state convention of the Kansas department, American Legion, was held in Hutchinson Oct 3 to 5 1921.
It was the 3rd annual convention, the 1st, in 1919 in Wichita; and the 2nd, 1920 in Topeka.
The convention business sessions were held at Convention Hall, but the festivities were mainly staged at the state fair grounds, where a big reunion picnic was held all day, with Lysle Rishel post as the host.
An elaborate parade was a feature, this being held down town.
Gen. Wilder S. Metcalf, of Lawrence, former colonel of the 20th Kansas, was elected department commander succeeding Tom Lee of Topeka, who presided at the Hutchinson Convention.
The contest for state commander was a heated one, with 3 candidates running, the others being Geo. A. Withers, of Wichita and Orlin A. Weede, city attorney of Atchison.
