A petition for a charter for the new post was signed by 84 veterans, who thus became the charter members. It designated the name of the post “Argonne Billet”.
The temporary charter was issued on Sept. 3 1919, to “Argonne Billet American Legion Post # 1, Reno County, state of Kansas.” It was signed by Eric Fisher Wood, secretary of the National Executive committee of the American Legion. (from Post 68 History book Vol. 1)
