Charles Ernest Grassley (born September 17, 1933) is an American politician serving as the senior United States Senator from Iowa, first elected in 1980. A Republican, he previously was a member of the United States House of Representatives (1975–1981) and of the Iowa House of Representatives (1959–1975). He was chairman of the Senate Finance Committee from January to June 2001, as well as from January 2003 to December 2006, and is now the current chairman of the Judiciary Committee of the 115th Congress.
