American Legion Post 298 purchased a tract of land and developed it into a community park. There was a pool that was expanded in 1957 to 22,000 sq ft, big grandstands and rodeos. It was purchased in 1939 and sold to the city in 1962 for $4,000, with an appraised value between $500,000 and a million.
