A meeting was held on July 3, and nine riders showed interest in forming a Legion Riders group. The first step was to ask that the group be recognized by the Post. During the July 9 Executive Board meeting, the subject was brought up, voted on and approved. The question was then taken to the general Legion membership meeting and was approved.

The next step is to hold another meeting of those members -- including members of the Post, the SAL and the Auxiliary -- who wish to participate with the American Legion Post 298 Legion Riders to nominate/elect officers, approve a set of by-laws and discuss what activities the group wants to participate in. This meeting has been set for 11 A.M. ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 4 AT THE POST.
All interested bikers should attend.

From the Regular Membership Meeting Minutes of 9 July, 2007:

New Business: John Nieland brought to the general membership to approve the forming of a Legion Riders group at the post. The Executive board approved it earlier. John will look into the question of increased liability insurance.

The purpose of the Legion Riders is to participate in Legion events. They will probably join the Patriot Guard. Whose purpose is to attend funerals to insure that families are not harassed and veterans are honored. The Legion Riders will be involved in fundraising and required to have officers and by-laws. There was a meeting last Tuesday to see if there was interest in forming a unit. There were 9 interested. Legion, Auxiliary and SAL members are eligible to join the Legion Riders.

John made a motion that the Post approves the forming of The American Legion Riders. Motion Passed.
