Organization Meeting of Hartley American Legion

The American Legion met at the Commercial Club room on November 19th for the purpose of organization and election of officers. Eighteen of the members were present. Election results were as follows: Ralph Stribe, Commander, Dr. W.C. Hand, Vice-Commander, L.W. Grotewohl, Post Adjutant, R.O. Bumann, Finance Officer, Will Hesse, Post Historian, Freeman Albright, Chaplain. The name of the post was chosen as Arthur W. Kirchhoff post in honor of the first man killed in action..

Legion Hall Dedication Celebrated

The community building, commonly known as the Legion Hall, was erected in the year 1925. The excavation started April 22, 1925, and the corner stone was laid on July 11, with Editor Frank Miles, of the Iowa Legionnaire, as the speaker for the day. On Armistice, the citizens of Hartley and surrounding territory celebrated the event with the dedication of Hartley's fine new Legion Memorial-a $32,000 building. Geo. W. Sioux Indian Pow-Wow Was Fully Up To Publicity Claim September 11-12, 1928 The weatherman seemed to be against the Indian Pow-Wow put on by the American Legion Tuesday and Wednesday. The special train bearing the 200 Sioux Indians from Chamberlain, S.D., arrived about 8:30 Monday morning in a downpour of rain. the Legion boys took the Indians immediately to the Legion Hall where they served them with breakfast.
