George Churchill and Robert Matthew left Saturday for Indianapolis to enroll in Hoosier's Boys' State at the fair grounds.

Boys' State is conducted annually by the American Legion of Indiana and the purpose is to teach the youths the principles of good government and citizenship. The American Legion and the Elks Lodge of Ligonier are sponsoring the two representatives from here.

(NOTE)--Robert Matthew went to WW2 and was the Service Officer at Ligonier Post 243 till his death on Oct. 5th 1998

Mathew Robert D, 73, died Thursday in Goshen Hospital. He was born Nov. 18, 1922 in Van Wert, Ohio to Samuel R. and Hila V. (Stump) Mathew. A 70-year resident of Ligonier, he was retired from Bell Telephone Co. in Indianapolis. He was a member of West Noble American Legion, Ligonier Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite & Mizpah Temple in Fort Wayne and Ligonier United Methodist Church. He had been a captain in the U.S. Army during WW II. He served on the Ligonier city council 1980-83 and 1989-91 and in 1981 was named Ligonier Citizen of the Year. Surviving are a niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard. Funeral Sunday in Ulrey-Renner Funeral Home. Burial, Oak Park Cemetery. + 10-15-1998
