Worked at Sullivan Post Office 1949 to 1958.
Amax Coal Company 1958 to 1985. Retired September 1985.

Sonner is a member of the American Legion Funeral Detail. Any veteran who served honorably is entitled to a Military Funeral.
The American Legion puts American Flags on all Veterans' graves on Memorial Day. Sonner puts flags on 15 small cemeteries that are located outside of Sullivan in Gill, Haddon, Hamilton, and Turman townships. He also helps with Center Ridge Cemetery. He has been doing this for 47 years.
Sonner is married to Joan and has two daughters, Margot of New York, Michelle of Spring, Texas and one stepson, John Scott of Sullivan. He has three granddaughters and two great granddaughters and one great grandson. He has two sisters, Abbie and Rachel both of Sullivan.
