Sonner F. Faught Born: September 15, 1924 Graduated from Sullivan High School in 1942. Attended Indiana State College. Worked at Sullivan Post Office 1949 to 1958. Amax Coal Company 1958 to 1985. Retired September 1985. Memberships: First Baptist Church of Sullivan over 75 years. V.F.W. - Life Membership Zorah Shrine, Terre Haute. Joined 1964 Masonic Lodge, Sullivan. Joined 1949. Master of the Lodge in 1964 Scottish Rite. Joined 1959 Sullivan County Shrine Club Eastern Star Amax Twenty-Year Club Moose Club Elks. Joined 1949. Exalted Ruler 1969-1970 Sullivan County Council for 32 years - President 16 years Selective Service Board And a member of the American Legion-Life Membership Sonner has been a member of the American Legion for 70 years. Entered Service 3/15/43 Discharged 9/25/45 He served with the 376th Bomb Group (B-24 Bombers) in Italy for 16 months. Offices he held in the American Legion (Been an officer for 31 years.) Commander (10 years) First Vice Commander Second Vice Commander Finance Officer Trustee Adjutant Bar Manager Various Committees He has been Seventh District Vice Commander for 23 years. Sonner is a member of the American Legion Funeral Detail. Any veteran who served honorably is entitled to a Military Funeral. The American Legion puts American Flags on all Veterans' graves on Memorial Day. Sonner puts flags on 15 small cemeteries that are located outside of Sullivan in Gill, Haddon, Hamilton, and Turman townships. He also helps with Center Ridge Cemetery. He has been doing this for 47 years. Sonner is married to Joan and has two daughters, Margot of New York, Michelle of Spring, Texas and one stepson, John Scott of Sullivan. He has three granddaughters and two great granddaughters and one great grandson. He has two sisters, Abbie and Rachel both of Sullivan.
