Visitors who will assist in the opening Aug. 10, of the Franklin Park American Legion Post 974's annual carnival are the Mel Tierney drum and bugle corps of Park Ridge. The parade is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., with local patriotic, civic, and community organizations taking part.
The Mel Tierney group has been state champions since 1946 and retain a large trophy for placing first for three successive years in the National Drum and Bugle Corps Association contest, They will appear at the Chicagoland music festival and were the winners, July 26 of the South Milwaukee Music Festival trophy. They have also appeared at the Chicago Railroad and Lakefront fairs and several college footbal games.
