Winter paid an early visit with snow and frigid temperatures, but Post 50 forged ahead with Veterans Day celebrations nonetheless. The bad weather forced observances to be held indoors. The day started with breakfast at DeMars, followed by a salute to veterans at St. Benedict Church and the formal Veterans Day ceremony at Memorial Park.

A Veterans Day recital to honor the fathers and grandfathers of St. Benedict School students was held in the church.

Past Auxiliary Unit 50 President Ivy Fron served as chaplain for the ceremony.

Blue Island Mayor Domingo Vargas (from left), City Treasurer Carmine Bilotto and City Clerk Randy Heuser were among the civilians who attended the ceremony.

Following the retirement of colors, attendees were treated to a continental breakfast.
