Douglas R. Deetjen served as 85th Commander of Post 43 for from 2017 -2018.
Doug was born August 4, 1946 in Oak Park, Illinois. He served in the United States Navy for 4 years active and 2 additional years in the Reserve Component during the Vietnam Era.
He was Boiler Tender 3rd class. When he returned to civilian life, he was a Stationary Engineer in Local 399 and Operating Engineer in Local 150. Following this he was self-employed.
Prior to being elected to Post Commander, he used his expertise in assisting with needed repairs to the Post Home.
Doug played a major role in the establishment of a Sons of the American Legion Squadron within Post 43.
