Wayne Louis Fischer was born September 29th, 1948 in Estherville, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 5 1/2 years during the Vietnam War as a Helicopter and Fixed Wing (Jet) Pilot. The experience supporting our Marines and friendlies “was a tremendous experience and taught me how right it was for me to be of service to others”. Wayne has carried on that service aspect in the American Legion, in the community and in many other areas of his life.

Wayne worked in Sales and Sale Management in the Livestock Feed Industry for 10 years and then went into the Pet Food Industry in Sales Management.

He served as the 75th Commander of Post 43 serving four consecutive years 1999-2000, 2000-2001, 2001-2002 and 2002-2003. He went on to serve as DuPage County Commander in 2006-2007; District 11 Commander 2009-2010 and is currently 2nd Division Sr. Vice Commander 2014-2015.

On April 5, 2014 Wayne was awarded The Exchange Club of Naperville’s American Spirit Award. This award is reserved for individuals, groups or organizations whose actions demonstrate a commitment to the CAN Do spirit in their work and service to others. Wayne exemplifies these actions as an officer on all levels of the organization, as Post trustee, Kendall Cook, in his work with DuPage Veterans Foundation, support of the American Legion National Emergency Fund, committee member for the Korean/Cold War Era Memorial Celebration and so much more. If it needs being done, he is there.
