Gerald Lindell served as the 74th Commander of Post 43 in 1998-1999. He was born November 18, 1933, in Woodstock. He served in the United States Army in Korea 19520 -1955. Jerry was particularly proud of his Combat Infantryman's Badge. Following military service, he married his childhood sweetheart, Donna. He completed his education and the settle in Naperville.

Jerry began his teaching career in 1959 at Washington and Lincoln Junior High Schools, both in Naperville and later chairman of the technical arts department at Naperville Central High School. He served as president of the Naperville Teachers Association. His skills as a teacher inspired many students to enter the building trades. At least 20 Naperville homes were built by his former students.

Jerry was a founding member of Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity. His work drew the attention of Naperville Mayor George Pradel, who appointed him to the city's Building Review Board in 1975. He also served on various civil defense committees and was a vice president of the Northeast Civil Defense Council and chairman of the Illinois Civil Defense Council Training and Education Committee.
