John Prescott served a two-year term as 68th Commander of Post 43, 1988-1990. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 31, 1925. His family moved to Downers Grove, Illinois in 1930 and he eventually moved to Naperville, Illinois.

John was a WWII veteran, serving from July 17, 1944 to July 10, 1946. He received 17 weeks of Infantry training at Camp Blanding in Florida. Then he was assigned to Company C, 50th Armored Infantry Battalion, 6th Armored Division at Bastogne, Belgium During that time, he attained the rank of Corporal in the United States Army.

He fought at the Battle of Ardennes (the Bulge) and was wounded on February 26, 1945 at Prum River Crossing Leinenbach, Rhineland, Germany. He was awarded a Purple Heart, Battle Star and Bronze Star as well as a Combat Infantry Badge.

After he returned from war, John worked as an Insurance Broker. John stated that he feels “very blessed by God for my survival and for being American”.
