American Legion Post 43 opened its huge 1947 Carnival on the Martin-Mitchell grounds on May 29th 1947. A large dance floor was erected, and music was furnished each evening. There were children's carnival rides, games for all ages and more.

The tradition of an annual carnival began in the 1940's. The proceeds from the carnival were used to support. We do know that the one such Carnival raised funds to purchase Squad 1 a 1941 Ford 1 ton Panel. The side door reads "Presented by Naperville Post 43 and displays the American Legion Emblem".
