Pursuant to notices published in Douglas County newspapers, men that were in service of the United States from April 6th, 1917 to November 11, 1918 met at the Douglas County Courthouse in Tuscola, Illinois on June 4th, 1919 for the purpose of organizing a post of the American Legion.

Mr. R.W. Weber of Urbana, Illinois, a member of the temporary State organization was present and detailed the plans and constitution of The American Legion to the men assembled at that time. After due consideration it was decided by vote of those present to apply for a charter of The American Legion.

A motion was made and seconded that LeRoy McNeill be named temporary chairman, a vote was taken and he was unanimously elected.

A motion was made and seconded that Roy H. Johnson be named temporary Secretary, a vote was taken and he was unanimously elected.

The temporary Chairman appointed George Larmimer and Edwin Meisters as an executive committee.

The temporary Chairman appointed H.B. Rutherford, Joseph Grant Green, and Henry Meisters as a constitutional committee to draw up a constitution for the Douglas County Post.

A motion was made and seconded, voted on and passed that the meeting be adjourned.
