The POW/MIA Team Honor Guard was created by the Department of Georgia in 2013 under the direction of Bucky Jenkins who at the time was the chairman of the POW/MIA Committee under the Department of Georgia, American Legion.  it consisted of two programs, one was a Remembrance Ceremony and the other was the Grand Old Opry Musical program.

After a couple of years, the Department wanted to have some changes made into the program to direct it more to the mission of the Department of Defense. A change of command was created and that is when Tommy Cannon was appointed commander of the Honor Guard by then Department Commander Randy Goodman. Tommy also assumed the position of chairman of the POW/MIA Committee along with co-chairs Jerry Price and Kathie Kennedy.

This Team immediately started to upgrade the current programs and discontinued the Grand Old Opry program since it had no bearing upon the mission of the Department of Defense.  The current Team which consist of 10 members have acquired several stage props for their programs which now total 6 programs. The Team really didn't have a home until 2017 when Post 29, Marietta GA offered them a place in their family and that is where they currently based out of and are members there.

Each member has the ability to set programs on any date and submit it to the commander for final approval.  We still work under the Department of Georgia but also the Post 29 roof too. We are well known all around the state for our programs and our willingness to travel anywhere in the state to deliver our programs.  All our scripts have been created by the members and are well received by their audiences.

Just in 2018 the Team performed 64 programs this is a record number for the Team.  We are pushing for more in 2019. Also, another duty we have is to report the new recoveries for each week from the Department of Defense to the Legion and its members across the state. We are a dedicated group of Team members working to keep the mission on everyone's mind and to push for more recoveries in the future to bring all of them home. if you would like to have one of our programs presented to your group or post just contact us and we will discuss what you need and set a date.
