Commander Woody McFarlin, second from left, of Marietta's American Legion Post 29 presented Ben F. Clay, right, with a check for 13 new flag poles of the more than 50 needed before Memorial Day, May 30, to decorate the graves of American servicemen in the Marietta National Cemetery between Washington and Roswell streets. With them are Dave Dimmick, left, director of the Marietta National Cemetery and Jim Carson, finance officer of Post 29.
A total of 350 large flags, each honoring a veteran, will be displayed at the cemetery May 28-30.
This year's Memorial Day program will begin at the cemetery at 7 a.m. May 28 to place a smaller flag at the headstone of the more than 17,000 veterans buried in the cemetery.
