It is always a pleasure to salute Cobb County’s American Legion posts, now observing their 56th anniversary.
Born in Paris in the days just after the World War I armistice, the Legion has been a stout and persistent force for traditional American causes. American Expeditionary Force members wanted to preserve their comradeship while also protecting American ideals.
The legion has been strong in safeguarding the rights of veterans, their widows and orphans, and its efforts have guaranteed some of the benefits enjoyed by ex-GI’s and their families today.
It should be noted that the Legion has always been active in Cobb community programs, sponsoring numerous permanent projects, especially youth programs. Chief among them is the American Legion Junior Baseball program, which has turned out many major leaguers and provided fun and competition for hundreds of Cobb boys.
VIEWPOINT: The American Legion is considered to be one of the nation’s most patriotic organizations. We salute are local posts on their 56th anniversary.
We too are proud of the work of the Legion Auxiliary, the women’s wing of the organization. Many references to the Legion and Auxiliary made in the county’s official history, The First 100 Years.
We join in the nation-wide tribute to this great organization of veterans and their families on the occasion of its 56th anniversary.
