College Park Post 50 scored 11 runs in the final two frames to break up a tight pitching duel between Marietta’s Post 29’s Jim Mulkey and Mike Storey, in  a Legion contest played Tuesday at Larry Bell.  Thanks to those two big innings, Post 50 wound up with a 13-1 win, but until Post 29’s collapse, the visiting team only had a 2-1 margin in the first 7 innings.

Mulkey proved an able mound opponent  for Storey in those first 7 frames, striking out 7 and walking 6.  However, he tired visibly in the eighth, bringing Ronnie Prince to the mound for one inning – Mike Spear going the ninth.  Post 50 picked up 6 runs in the eighth off Mulkey and Prince, added 5 more in the 9th, off Spear.

All told, the College Park crew reaped the three Marietta pitcher for 11 hits, but 6 bases on balls, and 7 Marietta errors had a big hand on the scoring.

Sudderth, with a homer and a single, led Post 50, and Fowke had two singles.  Storey allowed Post 29 but 3 hits – all singles – 2 by Kenny Dunn and one by Stan Meek.

Post 29 clashes with Smyrna Post 160 Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Smyrna’s Ward Park.
